Although we listed Puertecitos as one of the activities to do when visiting San Felipe, the small village and its surroundings also provide a camping experience that could be one of your most unique thanks to the natural hot springs for which the village is known.
Nestled along the picturesque shores of the Sea of Cortez, along Highway 5, Puertecitos is a place where tranquility meets natural beauty. This quaint seaside village, steeped in history dating back to its roots as a fishing and mining outpost, offers a peaceful retreat for travelers seeking to escape the busyness of San Felipe.
With its soothing hot springs bubbling up from the earth and panoramic views of the shimmering Sea of Cortez, Puertecitos beckons visitors to relax and rejuvenate in its therapeutic waters. Be sure to time your visit to the hot springs when the tide is coming in as the cool seawater tempers the hot springs to create the perfect temperature to enjoy.
As you sit in the hot springs, which are carved out of the rocks along the shore, you can relax and enjoy a sunrise, sunset, or even an evening soak if you camp in the nearby campground. Imagine watching stars in a clear sky reflect off a tranquil sea as you soak in the warm springs!

Outdoor enthusiasts will also delight in the abundance of recreational activities available, from kayaking and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters to exploring the rugged desert landscape on scenic hikes or off-road adventures. If you stay in the Puertecitos RV Park at the heart of the small bay you can paddle around the rocky entrance into the Sea of Cortez and take in some incredible scenery from the water.

Puertecitos RV Park

Puertecitos RV Park is the main camping area in the small village of Puertecitos, known more for the natural hot springs than anything else. The campground is actually within the property hosting the hot springs, so when you camp here you also get free access to the hot springs and can come adn go as you want.
Although there are 20A electrical connections and water stored in large containers at each campsite, you might be better off to avoid using each and consider this a glorified dry camping venue. Most sites come with a palapa, some off the water with two-story palapas, but this makes it a tight fit for anything larger than a 35-30’ rig.
Most sites also have picnic tables and overlook the small bay where you can easily launch your paddleboard or kayak nearly from your campsite. As you enter the compound you’ll approach a gate and a security guard who will let you in the property and provide a little extra peace of mind that you’ll be safe overnight.

Campo Octavio

Campo Octavio is a very modest beachfront camping spot on the opposite end of the village from the RV park. It is not much more than a few palapas and picnic tables on the beach, very overpriced by all reports. But if the campground is full or you want a quick stop that is not too involved, this might be all you need. You’ll definitely be dry camping with nothing more than a pit toilet.
Take a left at the fork coming into town, and another left toward the beach.
